There are three Alliance Française in the United Arab Emirates: in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain.
The Alliance Française is an organization whose mission is to promote French language and culture outside France. Its primary concern is teaching French as a second language. It is headquartered in the French capital of Paris.
Alliance française has 3 goals :
- offer courses in French, in France and in the world, to all sections of society
- promote French culture and cultures of French-speaking countries better and in all dimensions
- encourage cultural diversity and bring into focus all cultures
The Alliance was created in Paris on 21 July 1883 by a group of eminent men, including the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin.
More than 440,000 students learn French at one of the centres run by the Alliance, whose network of schools includes:
- a centre in Paris,
- locations throughout France for foreign students and
- more than 1000 locations in 143 different countries.
The organisations outside Paris are local, independently-run franchises. Each has a committee and a president. The Alliance française brand is owned by the Paris centre.
All the Alliance Française of the Emirates offers :
- French classes
- a multimedia library with books and magazines but also DVD, audio CDs…
- regular cultural events (exhibitions, conferences, concerts, shows…)
- tests and diplomas to certify your French language achievements.
